The Academy Barons are officially underway and through the first week hold a 3-3 record in the CCL with a 4-3 record overall. There have been many bright spots as we start to go full speed into this summer season. Some of the more notable offensive performances thus far have come from SS Channy Ortiz (Grand Canyon) with a team leading 9 hits in the first 7 games, OF Basiel Williams Jr (Mississippi State) who is tied for the league lead with 7 stolen bases and 1B Kyle Freeman (Pitzer College) who has 7 hits thus far, 3 of which are extra base hits including the lone home run for the team on the season. On the mound there has been some lights out work from Trevor Sutt (Long Beach City College) who has thrown 8.1 innings and is yet to give up a run while also striking out 10. Also on the mound Elijah Pleasants (Tennessee), JP Massey (Minnesota) and Yuji Sakane (East Los Angeles College) have all been efficient getting outs with minimal stress induced. The team looks to keep the bats hot as they scored 7 runs in the last 3 innings during their victory Sunday against the Conejo Oaks. The Barons next game is slated for Wednesday, June 19th as we travel to Arroyo Seco to take on the Saints for the first time this season.
