Barons Split Double Header with Arroyo Seco

The Barons split their double header with the Arroyo Seco Saints on Saturday losing the first game by a score of 9-4 and winning the second game by a score of 11-4.

Tyler Tungate got the start for the Barons in the first game of the double header. Tungate pitched 3.0 innings allowing seven hits and five runs in the outing. Jared DaRocha followed Tungate on the hill and pitched 3.o innings in relief allowing four earned runs and four hits. Aaron Soto came in for the final three innings for the Barons and didn’t allow a single run while striking out three batters.

The Barons bats were not much better in the first game of the day. The Barons had seven hits with Angel Mora being one of the leading hitter going 2-4 with an RBI. Randy Rubio delivered for the Barons as well going 2-5 and 2 RBIs.

Long Beach State pitcher Sebastian Sanchez received the start for the Barons in the second game of the day. Sanchez pitched for 5.0 innings allowing eight hits and four runs before being pulled for Joseph Mercado. Mercado was stellar in his 2.0 innings of work not allowing a single hit nor run and struck out three batters. Solomon Bates continued to do it all coming in to pitch the remainder of the game and was as strong as Mercado. Bates, who also performed DH duties in the second game, pitched 2.0 innings only allowing three hits and no runs. Bates also struck out four Saints batters during his time on the mound.

The Barons rediscovered their hitting in the second game. The Barons recorded ten hits with five players on the recording at least two hits. Catcher Joseph Argumedo went 2-4 with 3 RBIs and Randy Rubio hit the ball well once again going 2-5 with 2 RBIs.

The Barons will play the So Cal Catch on Tuesday at the MLB Youth Academy. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
