Six Barons Commit to Four-Year Universities

Six Barons players committed to four-year universities during their time in Compton, including four who committed to Division I schools in the fall. Pitcher Tyler Tungate and outfielder Ernie De La Trinidad have committed to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, pitcher Sebastian Sanchez to California State University, Long Beach, and shortstop Reggie Southall will attend the University of Tennessee. Pitcher Wesley Albert is attending Division II Lee University and pitcher Reece Buska will attend NAIA Midland University.

Tyler Tungate and Ernie De La Trinidad are heading to UNLV together where they join Barons teammates and current Runnin’ Rebels pitcher Ryan Hare and outfielder Keyon Allen.

During his time with the Barons, RHP Tungate started eight games and posted a 1-2 record. Over 32.0 innings, Tungate ended the summer with a 3.93 ERA and collected 11 strikeouts. Tungate previously played at Golden West College. De La Trinidad was named a 2016 California Collegiate League (CCL) all-star and led the league in batting average for a majority of the season. He finished the year with a .388 (57×147) average with four home runs, eight doubles, and a league-leading seven triples. De La Trinidad previously competed for Central Arizona College.

RHP Sebastian Sanchez is the third Division I-bound player after committing to CSULB. Sanchez tossed 40.1 innings and collected 24 strikeouts. While starting eight games, the former El Camino College pitcher earned a 3.34 ERA while posting a 3-3 record.

Shortstop Reggie Southall, who signed with the University of Tennessee, played in nine games as a Baron. Southall hit .125 (3×24) with one double.

RHP Wesley Albert had a 3-0 record in one start and 13 appearances. Over 21.1 innings of work, Albert posted a 7.17 ERA and struck out 22 batters. Albert formerly pitched at Westchester Community College (NY).

RHP Reece Buska was named a 2016 CCL all-star and earned a league-leading nine saves this season. Buska threw 23.2 innings, posted a 1.90 ERA, and compiled 17 strikeouts. Previously, Buska played at El Camino College.
