The CCL-leading Academy (16-4, 11-4) took the trip north to Ventura where they beat the Halos 5-0 in their first matchup of the season on Wednesday night.

Pitching was strong for the Barons as five of the staff combined for a shut out while allowing only six hits. RHP Gary Smith started on the bump, striking out one and allowing just two hits over 2.0 innings. RHP Wesley Albert earned the win after 3.0 innings on the hill, allowing just one hit with one strike out. RHP Josh Bravin followed with 1.0 inning, collecting one strikeout. RHP Oscar Muñoz collected three strikeouts over 2.0 innings of work. RHP Reece Buska added another strong closing performance to his season in the ninth inning.

The Barons racked up nine hits in the game. Left fielder Ernie De La Trinidad continues to have hit safely in each game he has appeared this season, extending his hit streak to 19 games after going 3×5 with a two-run home run (3). De La Trinidad was the only Baron to record a multi-hit game, his twelfth of the season.

In one of the most anticipated games of the summer, the Compton squad will travel to Angel Stadium in Anaheim on Thursday where they will face the USA Baseball National Collegiate Team at 6:30 p.m. The Barons will host Team USA on Saturday at 1 p.m., following a Barons home contest against the Long Beach Legends on Friday evening at 6 p.m.
